In the last few months we have been on an
interesting journey of appraisal and reconnection to our vision. We basically moved here to train up younger leaders and equip them for long term ministry. As you will know we currently run the School of Pionneering and Leadership Development here over 2 years, and along side it running a 10 month DTS every year.
We feel that for 2009 it is a season to focus soley on leadership development so we are going to shorten the School of Pionneering and Leadership Development course (SPLD) and run it full time for a year without running a DTS. This is a radical step for us and it sharpens our focus and potentially lowers our intake of students. but we feel this is an important step for us to take as our passion is still to help people find their calling in life and begin to work it out. Our heart is for people that come to be with us for a season would find the right steps to be able to make their dreams a reality. this training year will enable us to plant some new ministries and enable some individuals to start new YWAM teams else where.
If that is you, contact us. It doesn't matter where you did your DTS. If you have a vision to do something or go somewhere but don't know how to do it or don't feel ready we would love to help you find your way. come and visit us and see if you could fit here for a season of preparation...........
In 2009 we will be planting a new YWAM team in Leeds (up the road) Their focus will be on justice, working with disavantaged youth and starting a dance academy. If you wanted to be a part of that you could join us from Jan. and join the team going their in the Autumn......GO TO OUR TRAINING PAGE AND CLICK SPLD FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Well, it has been an interesting journey so far. As you may already know we have found what we believe to be the right building for us to operate out of in York. It is an old church hall (see previous entries) on a housing estate. The building would give us office space, a classroom, hang out area and somewhere to have meals for our students and a community centre that we can use for various projects as well as existing things such as ballet and mums and toddlers groups.
Miraculously we have seen just over £45,000 come in in 4 months!! This has really encouraged us but the goal is to buy the building for £150,000 as well as needing about £40,000 extra for structural work that needs doing almost immediately such as a new roof etc.
We have been here over 4 years now and still have to rent different rooms on a weekly basis for our training, admin. needs and weekly outreach. This building would make a huge difference for us and enable us to establish a more long term presence in the city as well as a legacy for future leaders.
Please pray with us as we stand in faith for the rest of the funds needed. the church have given us until June/July to find the money and as we have little income available we cannot pursue a mortgage on it. Pray that we would have wisdom on how to move forward, who to talk to and for divine appointments. Time is ticking away and we are trying to combine responsible pro-activity with blind trust. An interesting place to be!!

Well it has been 2 months now and its has been an amazing journey. Back in Dec. YWAM had a national day of prayer for us and a few people came up to join us in the building to pray for release of funds to be able to buy it. So far we have seen £42,000 come in which has blown our minds to be honest!! It has confirmed our direction and still we move forward in prayer, faith and action that the money will come in.
It is a scary time but we believe we are in Gods will and we have until June to find the rest of the money. The building costs £150,000 but needs a new roof and some structural work so the target is closer to £200,000 if we are to have it usable by the summer. For a better look at the building check out this link http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.yorkstories.co.uk/wanderings/images/11_16_april_2006/st_barnabas_church-2_110406_300.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.yorkstories.co.uk/wanderings/leeman_rd_area_2006.htm&h=225&w=300&sz=31&hl=en&start=3&um=1&tbnid=8tq5okpjiziLIM:&tbnh=87&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dst%2Bbarnabas%2Bchurch%2Bhall%2B-%2Byork%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26hs%3D1b0%26sa%3DG
if you would like to give money to this you could send a cheque payable to YWAM and send it to PO Box 321, York, YO24 3WA. Or contact us for bank details to do a bank transfer.
Feel free to contact Carl if you have more questions on ctinnion@ywamyork.com
Cheers.

We have been trying to find suitable premises for our work and team and now after nearly 4 years of being in York we have found an amazing property that would be perfect for our work as a ministry centre.
The building is the C of E St Barnabus Church Hall on Salisbury Terrace (Near Leeman Rd). The Church there are in the process of building a new church hall and so this one is for sale. They have offered it to YWAM for the market value price of £150,000. This is an amazing property for us, it has a large hall upstairs that we could use for lectures and community meetings, this includes space for us to put in some office space and a prayer room. Downstairs it has a café area, kitchen and toilets. In Jan. 2008 we have 9 students coming on our discipleship course as well as 2 new staff which puts us at 15 adults and 4 children.
At the moment we rent a few houses, an office and a classroom, all in different locations. Having a building that centralises our work will be amazing as well as allowing us to develop more community based outreach into the area.
We will also need to rent 2 houses as close as possible to the Hall and because of the lack of residential space in the Hall we will need to raise the whole amount, plus a little extra for repairs and legal costs in order to buy the property outright.
So we find ourselves in a major place of faith and needing to trust God. We have taken a long time to pray about this and believe that this building is a God appointment. It is the one thing we feel sure of and so we are moving forward and trusting Him in the process.
If anyone is interested in supporting us financially or would like to know more details then please do not hesitate to contact us!
Please keep us in your prayers, we would love to be able to buy this building before the DTS arrive at the end of Jan......

So we are in to our last week of ministry here in Chennai, i cant get over how fast the last 5 weeks have gone.
Here is an insight in to one of the ministries we have been working with.
We go to a slum every Friday afternoon and run a program for the street kids, it is so much fun we do dramas, games, songs, they just love it. Then we usually spend some time visiting different homes and praying for people. Last week we went back to one lady's hut to see how she was doing as two weeks before her husband had left her and her friends son had TB and her husband was desperate for work. We were so blessed when we heard God had answered the prayers! Her husband was back, the little boy was doing much better and out playing with the children again and the friends husband had found work. God is so faithful!
Still the reality of their hardships doesn't go away, we visited another house in the slum and met a widow who's sons are also unemployed and she has a new born grandchild and two other young grandchildren. We had heard that you can sell kidneys to make money, but reality really hit home when she told us they often go without food and she had already sold a kidney and could we pray for jobs for her sons and for good health for her family especially her daughter in law who needed her appendix out. We did pray and i am believing God will bring change.
It always feels very strange to be in the slums as a westerner, and it is very humbling to be asked to pray for the families. It often makes me feel awkward as i have so much and they have so little and i wish i could offer more than just playing with their kids and my prayers. The Indian guys we are working with are amazing and have an on going commitment to the children and families here, but the needs can feel overwhelming. As ever the "the workers are few.." (Matt 9:37)
On Friday we visit for the last time so please pray that the time we have spent with the kids over the last six weeks will have impacted them, and that as we pray for and with the families that God would hear our prayers and bring healing and hope to them. And especially for the guys who will continue after we leave that God would bless what they are doing (they also run a home for street kids that are really destitute) and that he would provide the staff and resources so that their work can continue to grow.

We have been spending a day each week with the staff, women and children with HIV and AIDS at PACT Ministry.
It has been so much fun to spend time worshiping and doing a devotional with the staff each week, they are amazing men and women of God.
The highlight has to be working with the children they are so sweet and full of life. They have nicknamed Doug superman and every time we go they climb all over him and do superman impressions!
We did parachute games with them one week and they went crazy they were so excited!
We are also spending time with the women who are living and being cared for here, they are taking Anti retroviral drugs which prevents them moving form HIV to getting AIDS. For the most part they seem really positive but it must be so tough when they have been rejected by their families and communities.
It is a privelege to spend time with them all having fun, getting to know them and encouraging them in their faith.

Greetings from Chennai India!!!
We are having a good time, the reality of being here for the six weeks has Definitely hit home and with the heat, never ending meals of rice, and long journeys crammed in to various modes of transport it can seem a little over whelming at times.(Who ever feels sorry for animals being mass transported should try taking a bus here!)
However God has been so gracious to our team. So far we have survived every crazy Auto (motorized rickshaw) ride on the crazy roads and no one has had the sickness or diarrhea. And to be perfectly honest i'm loving the food and the sensual over load of noise, color and smells that are India.
The ywam base although basic is great and the staff and DTS students here have made us so welcome, they are so generous, kind and passionate for Jesus, we have much to learn from them.
We have a good weekly schedule working with University students, children and women with HIV, children from a leprosy colony, street children in the slums, doing prayer walks, women's ministry and preaching in Churches on Sundays. It keeps us busy especially as most of them take over an hour each way to get there! It has been such an honor to spend time with all of them especially the kids; playing games, teaching bible stories but most of all just showing them that they are loved and valued when so many people here have rejected them.
In many ways it feels like what we are doing here is merely a drop in the ocean and that we gain as much if not more than we are able to give, the real heroes are the wonderful local men and women who volunteer for YWAM full time to run the projects.
Well time for more yummy curry and rice!
Please keep me and the team in your prayers
Love to hear from you all!
